Worked with two Pittsburgh engineers who started a small drone company to provide field surveys and quality assurance for petroleum and agriculture industries. They wanted an industrial and trustworthy feel. I had fun doing research, and explorations of corporate design and brand applications. The end product is something BOLD and RELIABLE. Unfortunately, due to a few airspace policies, this start-up’s flame eventually went out.
During a UX sprint, I asked them what their spirit animal, mascot, or character would be if they were to have one. Their answers were both birds. They also described their services as swift. So, I took inspiration from the Peregrine Falcon whose long wings and incredible dives make for efficient and concise actions. The Flying V symbol grew from the drone and falcon’s silhouette. Then the drone’s spinning propellers create a circle that brings it all together.
